As the UK gets ready for a glorious heatwave, it’s time to wear maxi dresses and mini dresses in a range of citrus tones.

Fashion writer for the Guardian Helen Seamons, claims that there is nothing like orange to pep up a dreary outfit.

“A dose of orange in your wardrobe is sartorial Prozac – happiness on a hanger. It gets a bad rap for being 'difficult' to wear, but once you start exploring its many shades, you're sure to find something between DayGlo and rusty terracotta that suits your complexion,” she explained.

Bright oranges can be toned down with this season’s grey, while coral tones look fresh and dramatic paired with white.

Yellow meanwhile adds a similar splash of summer to any outfit.

Those worried about wearing this tricky colour may want to consider accessorising in it, with dramatic effect.

Pair a little black dress with yellow designer heels or a white maxi dress with a canary handbag to give so-so looks and injection of colour.
